What is chambray?

Chambray’s ancestor, 14th-century French cambric, was a durable, soft linen fabric created by a Baptiste in Cambrai.

Its modern form evolved with a colored warp and white weft, retaining cambric’s lightweight breathability but acquiring a distinct look.

Chambray later gained popularity in uniforms and workwear throughout the 19th century.
